Freelance Friday: Working During the Holidays

,

Today, I want to test run our new series "Freelance Friday". For those of you who didn't see the initial post regarding the series, it's essentially designed to bring you non-industry related topics every once in a while. This week, I want to touch on working over the holiday break, and workaholism in general.

I got the idea for this topic from a "mistake" I made over the Thanksgiving holiday. I say "mistake" because that's what I initially considered it to be, but that's not necessarily what it was. I messed up by not publishing a blog article last week. Although this might not seem like a big deal to some, not publishing one week can easily become a slippery slope to not publishing at all. Essentially, I planned on writing the blog post during the shortened work week, forgot, and told myself that I would do it over the Thanksgiving holiday. Let me caution you not to let work hang over your head this holiday season. Work is extremely important, don't get me wrong, but there is something to be said for not even thinking about it during your time off. Whether it be Christmas, Thanksgiving, or just a planned vacation, you will ultimately be more satisfied if you completely disregard work. The more I thought about the mistake I made by not publishing a blog article, the less it felt like a mistake. In reality, I'm probably better off not publishing a blog article at all than trying to squeeze it in over Thanksgiving break.

Thanks for reading this first installment of Freelance Friday. I'd love to hear your opinion on the topic, so let us know what you think in the comment section below or shoot us a tweet @PlumbZilla. Again, thanks for reading, and as always, have a great week!
